Who We Are

Jason Kirby

Jason T. Kirby is a true product of Alabama public education in action. He completed his secondary education at Pelham High School before attending Auburn University. There he obtained a B.S. in Environmental Science, while serving as a cooperative employee with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) here in Birmingham. He chose to continue his education at the University of Alabama Tuscaloosa; where he received both his Master’s and Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Shortly thereafter, he joined the
University of Alabama at Birmingham faculty as an assistant professor in the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering. His current academic research areas include the development of green and sustainable construction materials and application methodologies. In addition to his work at UAB, Dr. Kirby serves as an advisor to local and state organizations that are devoted to the protection of our natural environment (Black Warrior Riverkeepers, Alabama Environmental Education Consortium, Alabama Water Resources Research
Council, …) .
Dr. Kirby is an avid motorcyclist, marksman, and vintage Volkswagen devotee (currently restoring a 1977 VW Microbus{35mpg}); all hobbies that he enthusiastically shares with his wife Ellen.
