That said, the winners of the Step portion of Stompdown and the Gurney Derby were on ABC 33/40 this morning. Thanks to the ladies of Alpha Gamma Delta and the men & women of the School of Health Profession for braving an early morning!

Pancakes…Butter…Syrup…Bacon…and RICK JAMES?  That’s what you get when you combine eating and singing for some good times.  Over 500 students showed up at the Commons to grub and show their American Idol skills.

“They were looking for Blazer Clues…They were looking for Blazer Clues…They were looking for Blazer Clues…Wonder where they were!”

Eight AWESOME groups sprinted across campus to find clues for this year’s Blazer Hustle.  The clues could be found in numerous places on campus such as Heritage Hall, The Rec, and the Alys-Stephens Center.  Using strategy and brainstorming, Alpha Xi Delta Sorority came out on top and won this year’s event.

So, its Monday of Homecoming Week, and although we have the Blazer Hustle and Pancakes and Karaoke tonight, there was one thing still to be done today…banner judging!

Student groups/organizations submitted banners displaying their Blazer Spirit, Homecoming spirit, UAB traditions, etc. and then they were judged for points for the Homecoming Spirit Competition!

Once the judging was finished, Brittany Beane, our Spirit Chair, and I sat down and tabulated the scores! The winner will be announced, along with other spirit winners, on Saturday at the Homecoming game.

After months of planning and preparing, Homecoming week has begun. Today, Sunday Nov. 2, students from all over campus went to local hot spots to paint windows with dragons and UAB colors.

“There was a woman who pulls over on 10th avenue takes a picture of our artwork, hops back in her car and leaves” said a volunteer at the Snoozy’s site.

With cool temperatures and a light breeze, Paint the Town has started the trend to what is predicted to be consistent for the week.

If you missed out on today’s event, be sure not to miss out on any others! Tomorrow we’ll challenge our inner Blazer, dine and sing at “Blazer Hustle” at 7 p.m. followed by “Pancakes and Karaoke” at 10 p.m. at the Commons on the Green concourse.

Beginning at 10am on Monday and continuing until 8pm on Tuesday, UAB Students will have the chance to vote on Mr. and Ms. UAB.
